A Classic Built to Race

Some boats are just boats. Sugar Sugar is not one of them.

Hull #1075 is a 1957 W.D. Schock-built Thistle — cold-molded wood, hand-varnished, and as beautiful out of the water as she is on it. She was built in an era when American sailboat craftsmanship set the standard, and she has been maintained to honor that heritage. All rigging is updated and in good working condition. She comes with two complete sets of sails and a 1977 EZ Loaf trailer — everything you need to be on the water, or on the road to a regatta, the day you take ownership.

At 67 years old, Sugar Sugar isn’t just a piece of Thistle history — she’s a competitive racing boat.

2nd Place — 2023 Thistle Women’s National Championship, tied on points with the winner, separated only by tiebreak

1st Overall — Richmond Yacht Club Small Boat Winter Series

Raced Thistle Midwinters West at Mission Bay, San Diego

Her previous owner said it best: Sugar Sugar is “a beautiful woody,” maintained in pristine condition and raced as she was built to be raced.

Why She’s Selling

Valerie has raced Sugar Sugar across the Pacific Coast — at Mission Bay, at Richmond Yacht Club, and to a silver medal finish at the 2023 Women’s Nationals. She loves this boat deeply.

She is selling Sugar Sugar because she is facing a serious medical situation and needs the support. It is not a decision made lightly. Her hope is that Sugar Sugar goes to someone who will race her, care for her, and carry on what she started.

“I absolutely love this boat, but she should be racing.”

— Valerie
